The Solar eBike

The RM Tulpule Charitable Trust has provided funding for the Solar eBike Project in July 2022 for the purpose of providing green transportation for college level girls to go to remove villages and teach local schoolgirls hygiene and help with women’s issues. The project utilizes the surplus solar power available in Jnana Prabodhini school in Harali (JPH), thereby eliminating use of expensive fossil fuels for transportation, and The 6 eBikes and 1 eScooter provided by the Trust will enable up to 6 girls and their leader to travel to cover a distance of 25-30 Kms per day on a regular basis. The eBikes are best suited for this task as they have the range for such road trips and, in case the batteries run out, they can peddle the rest of the way back without getting stuck on the rural roads.

The project is run by the JPH school’s “Kishori Vikas Program”, which has been in existence for last 6 year, headed by Mrs. Gauri Kapre, the principal of the Jnana Prabodhini school in Harali, in the Osmanabad district. The program is specifically designed for providing for the education and betterment of young girls in remote villages who suffer from the ill effects of gender inequality in education. This year, the Kishori Vikas program is being conducted in 11 villages and 6 Tandas (settlements), reaching around 650 girls. A fresh team of 22 facilitators has just completed their initial training and will act as project coordinators and will guide and supervise the facilitators.
