Dr. Justice R. D. Tulpule was born on April 29, 1921, in Pune, Maharashtra. He had a distinguished and exemplary career spanning 50+ years as a practicing lawyer, and as a Justice of the Bombay High Court. He received his Ph.D. in Law from Bombay University. He also practiced law in the Supreme Court and worked on multiple Industrial tribunals. After retirement, he continued his philanthropic activities including the establishment of the R M Tulpule Charitable Trust.
